Well, hello!

We’re Louise and Ruth, the go-to scent trainers with a difference.

We’d love to help you transform your relationship with your dog so you can spend less time being exhausted and stressed and more time connecting with the dog you always wanted.

We work with owners who want a better life for both themselves and their dog.

Sniffly Dogs has been 7 years in the making from starting out and continuing with our own dogs to teaching you to train yours.

What does this mean for you?

  • Mindfulness for Both: Training is as much about you as it is about your dog. When you’re in the moment, watching your dog hunt out treats and treasures, you rediscover why you fell in love with them in the first place.
  • Real Connection: We’re here to help you become a true partnership – sharing triumphs, a few silly moments and lots of laughs from you along the way.
  • Flexible & Fun: Our methods are simple, easy to follow and don’t require endless, repetitive hours of training. We’re not seeking perfection or adding more stress. We’re all about quick wins and everyday fun that fits right into your busy life.
Train with purpose and watch the magic happen.

We’re all about focusing on being present, in tune with your dog so that everyday struggles melt away.

Working with us isn’t about how many levels you and your dog can get through or how many certificates you can collect. It’s about working together to become a real team. It’s not about the destination but about the journey you both take.

Perfection is a word that doesn’t exist in our vocabulary.

No matter if they are young, old, have disabilities, anxious, reactive or you think they aren’t smart enough, we’ll show you just how clever they really are and the difference scent work can make to both of your lives.

Scent work is an amazing activity for dogs with tons of benefits, especially for first-time owners and pet gundogs!

Here are some of the reasons why scentwork is so great:

  • Mental Stimulation

Sniffing is one of the most mentally enriching activities for a dog. It engages their brain, making them think and problem-solve, which helps tire them out without excessive physical exercise.

  • Calms and Relaxes

Sniffing lowers heart rate and stress levels. It’s perfect for excitable or anxious dogs because it helps them focus and decompress.

  • Burns Energy Without Over-Exercising

Sniffing sessions can be as tiring as a long walk! This is ideal for owners who don’t want to walk their dogs for hours but still want to meet their dog’s needs.

  • Builds Confidence

For nervous or unsure dogs, finding a scent and getting rewarded builds their confidence. It’s especially helpful for rescue dogs or those struggling in new environments.

  • Strengthens the Bond

Working together on scent work builds trust between dog and owner. Your dog learns to focus on you, and you become part of their “hunting team.”

  • Encourages Natural Abilities

Scent work taps into their instincts in a structured way. It’s a great way to satisfy their drive without needing a working environment. Perfect for those owners with working breeds such as gun dogs who have no interest in taking their dogs on a shoot.

Our Story:

It began over 7 years ago when we met on a dog training retreat. It was our first experience of scent work and being introverts we both naturally gravitated towards each other and the friendship grew from there. That’s the power of finding likeminded individuals in a common activity. You can form a friendship for life through your dog finding stuff.

The difference with the Sniffly Way is we bring so much more than scent training when you work with us.

Team Jessop:

Louise is the dog trainer of the Sniffly partnership, imparting her knowledge to make dogs’ world’s a better place. She gets a massive kick from seeing the relationship between a dog and their human develop to the next level.

On Team Jessop is Casper, a show Cocker Spaniel and Ember, a Wirehaired Vizsla. Casper’s still waiting for the day that Ember moves out, despite her very best efforts to make him her friend.

Casper is an older gentleman who has always lived for food and sniffing, but since his hearing has started to fail, his nose has very much taken over and sniffing is quite literally life itself.

Ember is a sensitive soul who loves to please and train with her humans, searching is her most favourite thing to do. She provides daily laughs with her antics and can often be found curled up on the top of the sofa around Louise’s neck.

Team Lewis:

Ruth brings her coaching skills and an understanding of the human end of the leash to the party. She’ll challenge your attitudes and beliefs, in an engaging and relaxed way, of course.

On Team Lewis is Mason and Willow, Springer Spaniels who are siblings but nothing like each other when it comes to what they like and don’t like, motivations and search styles.

Mason is a steady Eddie, working with purpose and at his pace. He likes to carry all the finds from an active search, even if it means having 4 squirrels (not the animal) in his mouth at once. He is an absolute cutie and exceptionally polite when meeting dogs and people.

Willow is like Taz, the Tasmanian Devil; works like a whirlwind, has a ferocious appetite, loves the search more than the find and has no off switch. She is exceptionally smart and to be honest, a demanding diva.

Every dog is different with their own personality.

Our aim with the Sniffly Way is to nurture a happy, calm and content companion, so you can experience the genuine partnership you envisaged when you welcomed a dog into your life.

And if you need convincing, we know what we are doing, we are both City and Guild Scent Instructors through The College of Scent Dogs (that’s what the badge below is in case you’re wondering.)

With our knowledge and experience, we are here to guide you on an extraordinary journey into the world of scent detection, ensuring you and your canine companion excel together.
